RESCUE DOG TRANSPORT

Have you ever gone somewhere and been confused as to where you're at? Have you ever been to a new place and felt lost? That is how your rescue dog is feeling.
Most of our communication with our rescue dogs is nonverbal. We have to find a way for them to understand us and for us to understand them. They may not know that it isn't safe to run out of a door, escape out of the back of a car, or take off when walking. It is up to us to make sure they stay safe and secure.
Safety
Safety is one of our number one concerns. We need to make sure the rescue dog is safe in their environment. When riding they can be secured with a seat belt harness, their leash held closely or if necessary crated.
Security
Our rescue dogs need to be secured at all times. When walking they need to have their leashes securely held. Their collars or harnesses need to be fitted well to ensure they can't get out of them. Double leashing a rescue dog especially during transport is critical to their security.
Water and Snacks
Provide your rescue dog with plenty of fresh water and light snacks during transport. Feeding heavy meals is not advised as it may upset the dog's tummy. Stop frequently to allow your rescue dog to stretch their legs and to stop the motion of the car. They may not have had many rides and the motion may upset their tummy.
