JOBS
Rescue dogs have so many jobs. They are guardians against strangers, noises, scary stuff, unknown or unidentified threats, movement and personal space, herding, hunting, alerting to known and unknown situations, digging holes, hunting small and large animals for food and for sport, capturing bugs, and tracking smells.
Many of these traits are inborn to rescue dogs. They don't know why they are doing these jobs. They do them naturally. So many ways they are helpful.
Many dogs prefer multiple jobs. They do not like to be bored. They like to be kept busy so they feel useful, important and part of the pack. Be mindful of what your dog naturally gravitates towards and encourage the behavior in positive ways.

What ways can you encourage your rescue dogs natural abilities? Give them opportunities to be the protector of the house. When they bark acknowledge that they are doing their job. Praise their bravery. Appreciate the sacrifices they are willing to make to keep you and your family safe.

Many toys can help rescue dogs praice their jobs. Playing with herding balls, playing fetch and tug of war are a few ways you can both have fun as well as helping your rescue dog hone their skills.

Any time your rescue dog is ready to go after another animal or catch a bug, they are helping the pack. It doesn't always feel natural to us. To your rescue dog their skills are vital to the pack's survival.

Some habits can be difficult to live with and can be destructive. Find ways to encourage your rescue dog that build a positive outcome for the whole family.
