HABITS

Habits are important to humans as well as rescue dogs.
Habits ensure that we get things done in a timely manner without thinking too much about them. Simple tasks and daily necessities constitute some times when habits are very beneficial. Dogs need a secure place to go.
It becomes a habit for them to go to their special place that helps them calm down. Make sure this place doesn’t change. If its necessary to change it, help your rescue dog transition into their new spot. Reassure them it’s okay and it’s as safe as the last spot they had.
When sleeping rescue dogs need to feel safe to get a good night’s sleep. Just like humans rescue dogs need a good nights rest to be ready for their day. They can get cranky or feel lethargic if they don’t get this.
Eating in the same place, same bowls, similar times can reassure a rescue dog they’re going to get their next meal.
Remember some rescue dogs were starved, neglected, not fed enough, fed too much. They need to understand meal time is important for their health and longevity. Stressful eating leads to weight gain, weight loss and lack of nutritional uptake. Make each meal for your rescue dog happy and healthy.
