CHALLENGES

What challenges do you think you’ll have with your rescue dog?

The first will be the information you receive about your rescue dog.  It may or may not be accurate.

The dog can be a stray with no known information known about them.  The dog can be from a shelter that doesn’t release any previous information.

The owner can be trying to protect themselves and the dog by not telling the whole truth about the dog’s behaviors.   They may think no one will want the dog with certain behaviors.   The owner can believe they will get in trouble for what the dog has done or what they have done to the dog.

Expect your rescue dog to need everything.   Be prepared for housetraining, leash training, food manners, proper introductions to strangers and other animals.

Understand this transition will take time and patience.  It is very important to make sure your rescue dog has what they need to be successful.

Do whatever it takes and do it the right way.   Your rescue dog has been through enough.   You want your rescue dog to be part of your family for the remainder of the life.
