BODY LANGUAGE

Rescue dogs use body language to communicate. This is important since they cannot speak our language.
Their eyes can communicate distress, happiness, focus, agitation, sickness, love. They can be open, closed, focused, staring, or whale eye. Their color can tell a lot about their personality and their health.

Rescue dogs ears communicate tension and relaxation. They can be back forward, alert, down, pointed straight up, and a little bit droopy.

Their paws show the direction they’re going, tension if their dug in, crossed fi they’re confident, attention if they’re lifted and tapping, angry if they’re jumping and digging, playful if they’re jumping and happy, limping if they’re hurt, sturdy if they’re strong, healthy if they support the dog correctly.

A rescue dogs head contains their eyes, ears, tongue and facial expressions. Their head can be stiff if they’re nervous, aggressive, terrified. It can be turned if it's focused on something to the side. It’s straight if the dog is doing forward or backward. It can be tilted if it doesn’t understand or if the dog is being cute.

Pay attention to your rescue dog's body language. You can learn a lot about your rescue dog just from watching them. The more you know the more you grow your relationship.
