DOG FIGHTING
Dog fighting can be caused by arguing over food, bones, toys, possessions, dog bed, space, humans, strangers, over stimulation, miscommunication between dogs, not enough space, unusual noises, previous disagreements.

Preventing dog fights are very important. If you’re walking on the street and see that your dog doesn’t like a dog coming toward you, cross the street. Avoid the conflict. Not every dog is going to like another dog. If at a dog park and there are too may confrontations, remove your dog. Take them some place else. You control the situation and can make it better.

In the house be very aware of the amount of space your dogs have. If they are too close they can feel threatened or overwhelmed. A younger dog can get in an older dogs face and agitate them to the point they want to fight to get them away. Dropped food can cause a fight with both dogs going after it at the same time. Don’t let this happen. Be very careful with food.

Dogs can guard their favorite human. They can become possessive. Be aware of this behavior and stop it immediately. Noone wants two dogs fighting over top of them. Both dogs want attention and love. In reality everyone gets hurt.

Previous fights can lead to additional fights. Work very hard to prevent any more conflicts. Dogs remember their last fight of who won and who lost. Don’t’ let them continue to engage. It gets worse and worse. Eventually the dogs will not be able to live together unless they’re separated. Living in a house with two dogs that have to be constantly separated can be done. It is very difficult and stressful to the humans, dogs and visitors to the home. Continuous training and making sure your dogs hear you can save you this.
