Dakota was in a shelter in Casa Grande, Arizona. It was getting overcrowded. He didn't have much time left. We worked with the local Humane Society and they brought Dakota to their shelter. Our Elkhound Rescue coordinator found two fosters so there would be a backup plan. The foster person picked him up in his pickup. His pickup had two friends for him to play with. His foster home was at a farm.
Dakota was slow walking at first. The time stuck in a cage did not help his hips and joints. Slowly with walks and movement, he started moving better. The good food and the fresh air of the farm healed him.
His adopter came from California. She said she was taking Dakota home in a plane. We were worried because of the heat. We were not sure about this method of travel. Traveling in the cargo hold is hard enough on a dog without the heat.
The adopter told us he would be traveling in the cabin of the plane with her. She had the paperwork. Dakota was on his way to California as a passenger. After all Dakota had been thru, It was really cool to see him get such royal treatment.
